Dear NAWBO Sisters,

Gina HitchensNAWBO-GDC members have sprung into action this spring! On April 18, thirteen NAWBO-GDC members descended on our state capitol to visit local senators to discuss issues facing women entrepreneurs and small businesses in general. Thank you to Bank of America for sponsoring this event including transportation!  Yesterday, over 40 entrepreneurs and their marketing professionals learned new ways to use social media to grow their business. Again, thank you Bank of America for your generous sponsorship. And, this weekend ends our membership drive. We have recruited six new members but it isn't too late to encourage more to join. If you know a woman business owner who has been thinking about joining, please send them a note today. This membership allows them a considerable savings if they join by April 30th! Have them visit to join.

When Northville, Michigan native Candice Simons returned to her home state after establishing herself in the outdoor advertising industry for ten years in Chicago, she knew exactly what she knew exactly what she wanted to do.  Her goal was to start her own business; an outdoor advertising company with a fresh perspective and a vibrant creative energy.

Simons founded Detroit-based Brooklyn Outdoor in January 2013, and the company has subsequently emerged as a regional and national force.  With satellite offices and full-time sales representatives in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.  Brooklyn Outdoor is able to provide full national coverage.  Access to unique outdoor inventory is an appealing asset for the vendors, advertising agencies, media buyers, and independent operators that Brooklyn Outdoor serves.  Simons and her team also work directly with property owners, helping them to develop, maintain, and market their assets.

Brooklyn Outdoor’s core business is outdoor signage and displays, including billboards, buildings, wallscapes, digital billboards, branded buses and taxis, bus shelters, digital interactive, street furniture, posters, mobile billboards and storescapes/in-window displays.  Simons and her team are adept at creating opportunities in places that they didn’t previously exist, helping clients and potential clients explore exciting new creative possibilities.  Brooklyn Outdoor knows how to put big ideas into action and make a lasting and memorable impact with target audiences.

Simons’ passion for the unique culture, communities and opportunities in and around Detroit inspired her to create j’adore Detroit, an events company that facilitates unique Detroit experiences and brings together diverse Detroit populations. J’adore Detroit celebrates, publicizes, and forges connections between Detroit area residents and some of the city’s most innovative and inspiring creators; from non-profits and musicians, to artists and artisans, to chefs and creative new companies.

Candice was named one of DBusiness Magazine’s 2016 30 in Their Thirties and was a 2015 Crain’s Detroit Business’ 40 Under 40 honoree.  Simons is a Detroit Young Professionals Vanguard Award winner, an honor that not only highlights the accomplishments of outstanding entrepreneurs and young professionals. Her work on Anheuser Busch’s Best Damn Apple Ale Launch earned her a Silver award at the prestigious Summit International Awards.
